real encouragement for real homeschooling moms

great thought #7

“A child is a person who is going to carry on what you started… He will assume control of your cities, states, and nations. He is going to move in and take over your churches, schools, universities, and corporations. …The fate of humanity is in his hands.”
– Abraham Lincoln

A few weeks ago we watched a documentary on the life of Theodore Roosevelt.  Over and over again I was struck by how many experiences he had as a child were used later in life to influence decisions he made.  He had been sickly and weak as a child and spent many hours reading, his favorite books being nature studies.  He loved nature and spent much of his youth exploring the outside world and preserving specimens for further study, much to the chagrin of his mother and siblings!  Yet that love of nature and the studies he did gave him such a great love for all of God’s world that when he was president and in a position of decision-making, he diligently fought for the preservation of thousands of acres of land, protecting both wildlife and natural resources for future generations to enjoy.  The National Park System was established and today we can explore God’s wonders because this man, as a little boy, was given the freedom to explore his little world.
