real encouragement for real homeschooling moms

september 19 podcast

“I think it also means that the Proverbs 31 woman was ready to face the changing seasons in her life as they came her direction. One reason I believe this is that no one woman could do all that this woman did all at once and in the same season. I think that King Lemuel’s mom wanted him to choose a wife who would graciously and wisely move from one season of life to another, bringing him joy and blessings in all the stages that they were to go through together.” “Listen here for this week’s podcast entitled “The Sweater Years, Part Two.”

I promised to include some resources for further reading that I think are helpful for anyone entering into the Sweater Years.

One book I would recommend is the Afternoon of Life by Elyze Fitzpatrick. She has some terrific insights that can be applied to all of women whether we are homeschoolers or not.

If you are struggling with the concept of usefulness after homeschooling, I would encourage you to get a copy of Wayne A. Mack’s book A Homework Manual for Biblical Living. In a workbook form, Mack’s Bible studies can be helpful for anyone, including our teens and young adults or a husband who is looking for a career change. The chapters use Scripture to address such topics as good communication, loneliness, spiritual depression, how to study your Bible, and many others. You might not agree with all of his conclusions but reading the Scripture passages will give you food for thought as you sort through how they apply to your life. Here are just a few of the verses he suggests when you are wondering what you ought to be doing in the later years of your life:

Joshua 1:8
Psalm 1:1-3
Psalm 37:31
Psalm 37:34
Proverbs 15:16
Matthew 7:24-25
John 13:17
1 Timothy 4:15
Proverbs 6:13-18
